Four candidates are running in partisan general elections for two seats on the Ohio Supreme Court on Nov. 3, 2026. Incumbent Justice Jennifer L. Brunner (D) and Colleen O'Donnell (R) are running for one seat, and incumbent Justice Dan Hawkins (R) and Marilyn Zayas (D) are running for the other.
Republicans have a 6-1 majority on the Court, with Brunner as its sole Democrat. If O'Donnell and Hawkins both win, all seven justices will be Republicans. If Brunner and Zayas both win, Republicans will have a 5-2 majority. If one candidate from each party wins, Republicans will retain their 6-1 majority. Republicans have had a majority on the Court since 1986.
This is the third election in which candidates have appeared on the ballot under partisan labels. In 2021, the state passed a law that judges must have their partisan affiliations listed alongside their names on the general election ballot. Before that, judges were selected through partisan primaries and nonpartisan general elections.
