Ohio State wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is a fan of the New England Patriots, following his meeting with the organization.
Smith-Njigba had a successful career at Ohio State. He had a breakout season in 2021 that saw him record 95 catches for 1,606 yards. Injuries hampered the Buckeyes star in 2022, and he only appeared in only three games.
Nevertheless, he’s done enough to prove he has a tremendous amount of upside.
When meeting with the media, Smith-Njigba had glowing reviews for New England. The wideout indicated his meeting with the organization went well. He’s not the only one who has had positive reviews about the organization. Mississippi State defensive lineman Tyrus Wheat was complementary of Bill Belichick’s hands-on coaching at the East-West Shrine Bowl in January.
In the meantime, Smith-Njigba also praised quarterback Mac Jones, as transcribed by NESN.com’s Dakota Randall.
“Coach Belichick, he’s, you know what type of franchise program they have over there,” said Smith-Njigba. “So, it definitely would be awesome being in that system. Mac Jones, also a great arm talent. Great quarterback. Definitely would like playing there.”
Smith-Njigba would be a game-changer for a New England receiver room looking for a spark. Injury issues could be a concern, but his playmaking potential is fun to think about.
