The Ohio State women’s basketball team’s stay in the NCAA Tournament ended prematurely on Sunday. Despite hosting as a No. 2 seed, the Buckeyes fell to No. 7 seed Duke and are now out of the tournament well before anyone thought.
Things looked good at first, with OSU leading by as many as 16 points in the first half, but the second half was a different story. Duke used its effort on the defensive end to halt the Ohio State defense to a grind, eventually grabbing the lead late in the third quarter and doing enough down the stretch in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 75-63 victory.
Cotie McMahon had one whale of a game, leading the Buckeyes with 27 points on 9-of-17 field goals. But it wasn’t nearly enough with Jacy Shelton being the only other Buckeye in double figures (13) with a very challenged 5-of-13 shooting night.

With the loss, Ohio State ends its season with a 26-6 record and a Big Ten regular season championship, but one in which there could have much more at the end of the rainbow.
