Black stripe alert! On Tuesday, Ja’Had Carter, a transfer portal addition, lost his black stripe and was welcomed to the “Brotherhood.”
Carter originally committed to Syracuse out of Henrico High School in Richmond, Virginia, as a three-star prospect in the 2020 class. However, Carter worked his way up and became a highly sought-after prospect when he entered the portal earlier this year. He earned freshman All-American honors in 2020 as well as Honorable Mention All-ACC in 2022.
In three years with the Orange, Carter started 28 games and recorded 138 tackles (98 solo), five interceptions, seven pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, a defensive touchdown, and a forced fumble.

Defensive coordinator Jim Knowles recently said that Sonny Styles has earned the right to be a starter in the safety group alongside Lathan Ransom. That leaves Carter, Josh Proctor, and Malik Hartford fighting for the final starting safety spot.
