An Ohio man, John Carter, 36, was sentenced to three years in prison for the involuntary manslaughter of Katelyn Markham, an art student who went missing nearly 13 years ago. Carter had initially been charged with two counts of murder but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge as part of a plea deal.
Katelyn Markham disappeared in August 2011 from her home in Fairfield, Ohio, just weeks before completing her graphic arts degree at the Art Institute of Ohio - Cincinnati. Her skeletal remains were discovered in 2013 in a wooded area in Cedar Grove, Indiana, approximately 20 miles from her home. While authorities ruled her death a homicide, the exact cause of her death remains undetermined.
