Oh Hyeon-gyu 'wants' Celtic transfer as boss admits he can't break striker's heart after FOUR pleas to join Hoops

Oh Hyeon-gyu wants to sign for Celtic and has his manager’s blessing after pestering FOUR times over a switch to Parkhead.

The Suwon Bluewings striker is one of Ange Postecoglou’s striking targets, along with compatriot Cho Gue-sung, and talks over a move for the former appear to be making progress, according to KBS. They report that Suwon’s stance over Hyeon-Gyu has shifted after the Premiership champions made an offer for their star man.

With Giorgos Giakoumakis thought to be close to sealing a move to Japanese outfit Urawa Red Diamonds, Postecoglou is ramping up his attempts to land a replacement. And Bluewings boss Lee Byung-geun had admitted that Celtic and the players’ persistence has forced his hand, with Hyeon-gue desperate to join the Hoops after setting his heart on a move to Europe. His manager had wanted him to focus on starring in the K League this season and then the offers from abroad would come in.

But Celtic kept upping theirs and eventually, Byung-guen was forced to admit defeat in keeping the frontman at the club. He told KBS: "I told Hyun-kyu that a bigger offer would come if I did well this season, but Celtic kept giving me better offers. He came to my room close to four times and talked to me... I couldn't break Hyeon-gyu's heart anymore."

Record Sport also understands that landing Hyeon-Gyu wouldn’t necessarily rule out a swoop for Gue-sung as well. He has long been linked with Celtic after an impressive World Cup for South Korea,

It had looked like he was staying put earlier in the window, with Celtic;s pursuit of other options seemingly prompting the frontman to decide to stick with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors until the summer., But he;s since reopened the door on a move to Europe, with Bundesliga side Mainz also keen to land him.
