South Korean striker Oh Hyeon-gyu has become the fourth January transfer window signing for Celtic after penning a five-year Parkhead deal.
The young frontman follows Yuki Kobayashi, Alistair Johnston and Tomoki Iwata as Ange Postecoglou strengthens for a Treble tilt. The 21-year-old international emerged as a target as chances of signing his compatriot and World Cup star Cho Gue-sung seemed to take a hit as he opted not to move in this window. Hyeon-gyu was capped at full international level in November and joins from Suwon Samsung Bluewings in a deal reported to be worth around £3 million after a lengthy hunt for a new frontman from the Scottish Premiership leaders.
He was included in South Korea's preliminary squad for Qatar only to be cut when Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min recovered from injury. Celtic announced the capture of the striker after he completed his medical and speaking on the club website, boss Ange Postecoglou said: “We are delighted to bring Oh to Celtic.
"He is a young, talented striker with great attributes and someone who is ready to take the next stage in his career – a player who is hungry, eager to develop and to achieve success. I have watched Oh for some time and he is the striker I really wanted as I think he will be a great fit in our squad. Really importantly, I know that he had his heart set on joining us too and that his own perseverance has been crucial in making this deal happen, so his determination to join Celtic has been very clear. We are really pleased to welcome him to the Club and look forward to working with him and settling him into our squad.”
