Aaron Mooy has backed Ange Postecoglou’s raid on the K-League as Celtic look to seal a deal for Korean hitman Oh Hyeon-gyu.
The Parkhead boss is hoping to snap up the Suwon Bluewings striker in a move worth up to £3m with Giorgos Giakoumakis expected to clinch his exit, most likely to Urawa Red Diamonds in Japan, in the coming days. Aussie Mooy squared up with K-League sides in the Asian Champions League during his time with Melbourne City in his homeland.
And he’s convinced recruits from Korea can crack it in Scotland. Mooy said: “I don’t know too much about it but I’ve played against Korean teams in the Asian Champions League, so I know how good they are. It’s a really professional league, the players are all very fit and strong, as Korean players tend to be. The manager obviously has a good eye for a player. Well, he brought me here!”
Mooy has complete faith in Postecoglou’s Parkhead recruitment – and he credits the boss for being a huge influence. The 32-year-old – who bagged a double in Saturday’s 5-0 win against Morton – said: “He’s been very important in my career. I’ve enjoyed working with him before, I enjoy working with him now, but I’m just one of the lads, just trying to be part of the team having a good season.”
Celtic are flying but Mooy insisted there is no chance the manager will allow complacency to set in. He said: “How does he keep everyone motivated?
“That’s the result of his motivational speeches. He’s always on us. And it’s not just him, it’s all the other staff as well. They’re on to us every day. We all buy into it and training is always high level, high intensity, high work rate – forget the past and look to the next challenge.
“That’s the same whether we’re playing in the Champions League or at home to Morton in the Cup. The standards are high and you don’t get away with taking it easy in training.
“We don’t look too far forward, just the next game.”
