Oh Hyeon-gyu looks set to secure a bumper move Celtic with Suwon Bluewings admitting they are preparing to accept an improved bid from the Scottish champions.
The 21-year-old has been on Ange Postecoglou ’s radar throughout January with the K-League side fielding four bids for their prize asset from Parkhead so far, but the striker search appears to be nearing it's conclusion with the club preparing for life without Giorgos Giakoumakis. The Greece international is thought to be close to sealing a move to Japanese outfit Urawa Red Diamonds leaving a spot open in the Celtic squad.
Despite standing firm so far this month, Suwon’s hardline stance over Hyeon-gyu has softened in the last 24 hours with the player issuing an impassioned plea over a move to the Scottish Premiership. A club representative has now claimed a deal would see the South Korea cap earn a whopping 10 times his current salary.
They also claimed that the bid that was being considered was above €2.5m (£2.1m) leading to the club performing a U-turn on the exit. A club official told Korean outlet News 1: "There was news that the transfer fee was €2.5m but in reality, I was offered a higher amount than that.
"Celtic offered 10 times the salary Oh Hyeon-gyu would receive in the K-League this season. It is a level that is difficult for us to afford.
"Still, we can't just send it away. If Oh Hyeon-gyu leaves, we will decide what the alternative is and whether it is possible to recruit a player. We plan to make a final decision within the Lunar New Year (January 22) holiday at the earliest."
