Emotional Hyeongyu Oh has hailed the Celtic support for giving them 'extra motivation' when they defeated Rangers to lift the Viaplay Cup last month.
The South Korean talisman added silverware to his CV within a month of joining the Hoops from Suwon Samsung Bluewings however he has been eased into Scottish football by boss Ange Postecoglou. Oh netted 13 times in his last campaign for the K-League outfit and arrived at Parkhead to much fanfare. He has made 10 appearances for Celtic so far, scoring three goals, although just one of those runouts have come from the start.
That hasn't phased Oh, who replaced Kyogo Furuhashi late on in the League Cup triumph, as he is adamant he can start to pay back the manager's faith for signing him and believes the spirit shown by his supporters and teammates has given him a taste of what it's like to play for Celtic. He told the Celtic View: “It’s a great honour for me to win the League Cup even though I had only been here a month. It's also been a while since I won a domestic cup, so I was very happy to win the title and play with our outstanding players.
"There isn’t much of a difference between winning a cup in Korea or Scotland because winning is winning, but I saw the stadium was split between both fans and through our supporters’ incredible songs, we were able to gain strength and win the game. That was the motivation and the reason we weren't exhausted to the end. When we celebrated with the fans after the match, I even got a little emotional.”
Oh has already started to reap the benefits of his move to the Scottish Premiership champions but he admits frustration was kicking in when it felt like the proposed move to Celtic was never going to happen. He recalled: "It could have been easy for the manager to give up if it didn’t seem like working out, but I’m thankful that he didn't. I was a little bit nervous, but there was nothing I could do. As a Suwon player at that time, I had to show my best performance for them.
“I actually heard about the interest last summer. Ever since I heard this news I was dying to join Celtic. The process was very exhausting, but now I have the happiest moments here, getting to lift a trophy with amazing team-mates and having all these new experiences.
"As the manager wanted me so much, I want to pay him back by scoring a lot of goals. My first goal when I got to the club was to get fit again as quickly as possible.
"When I came to Scotland it was in the middle of the season and in Korea, the season was over. I'm very fit now compared to when I started and I hope I can show more of my better side.”
