A drug-affected man has overpowered a female police officer before banging her head on the road and fleeing.
Police say the officer was violently assaulted after confronting two men who were sleeping in a car with a gun on the Gold Coast.
The men - aged 40 and 36 - have been charged while the officer was treated in hospital for a head injury sustained in the attack, police said.
Officers were called to investigate two men sleeping in a damaged car parked at Parkwood around 5.30am on Wednesday.
When police approached the suspected stolen vehicle, the 40-year-old man in the driver's seat became violent and assaulted the female officer, police said.
Superintendent Scott Knowles said the officer tried to restrain the man after deploying her Taser.
"He's managed to actually overcome her, assaulted her quite seriously by banging her head against the road surface before then being able to get up and flee," he said.
Supt Knowles said the officer would be offered support after the confronting incident.
"He was drug-affected so obviously that affected his strength and his attitude at the time but she did a fantastic job," he said.
"Certainly that would be confronting and something she's going to work through with our support network to make sure she's okay."
A search of the car found a firearm, ammunition and suspected stolen items, police said.
The 40-year-old is alleged to have stolen another car from a Southport business on Tuesday.
Police said the car owner tracked the vehicle to a Tugun address and approached the man who is accused of producing a gun and threatening the owner.
The 40-year-old left in the car and was tracked by police helicopter, with the vehicle later found abandoned at Surfers Paradise.
He has been charged with 15 offences.
The 36-year-old has been charged with five offences, with both expected to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday.
