Off-road motorcyclist taken to hospital after Mountain Rescue teams aid him in Northumberland National Park

An off-road motorcyclist was taken to hospital after falling off his bike in Northumberland National Park at the weekend.

Two mountain rescue teams came to the aid of the biker after he suffered a potentially serious injury on Sunday in Threestoneburn Wood in the Cheviot Hills.

Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team were called out after Northumbria Police received a 999 call from the motorcyclist's friend who was travelling with him.

Mountain rescue vehicles and the North East Ambulance Service were able to get to a point on a logging track 400 metres from the injured motorcyclist, and the casualty was assessed by a Mountain Rescue paramedic and nurse.

He was then handed over to the North East Ambulance Service just before 2.30pm, just under two hours since the teams had been alerted to the incident.

The incident involved 20 team Mountain Rescue team members and took three hours and 25 minutes.

The motorcyclist was carried to an ambulance on a lightweight Titan stretcher (NNPMRT)

A statement from the North East Ambulance Service read: "We received a call at 12.24pm on Sunday (18 June) afternoon to reports of a person injured following a cycling accident in Threestoneburn Wood, Northumberland. We dispatched two ambulance crews and a clinical team leader to the scene.

"We were supported by our colleagues at the Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team who were able to extract the patient and bring them to safety for our crews to assess and treat. We then transported the patient to the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSECH) for further treatment."
