Odell Beckham Jr to the Dallas Cowboys might still very much be on the cards after franchise owner Jerry Jones offered an encouraging update on where the team are with the superstar wide receiver on a potential signing.
Beckham visited the Cowboys last week after being heavily rumoured to be joining the team, but left with a contract, with Jones admitting that they are not comfortable without knowing if Beckham would be able to contribute this season.
The superstar wideout has been sidelined since February, when he ruptured his ACL in the Super Bowl win for the Los Angeles Rams, and has been a free agent since then after failing to agree a long-term deal to remain a Ram.
Earlier this season, it was expected that he would join former teammate Von Miller in joining the Buffalo Bills, but it then emerged that the two contenders to sign him had been the Cowboys and his former New York Giants.
After taking visits with the Bills and Giants, Beckham spent time in the Dallas facility - but did not practice, something that clearly irked Jones, as he stated he did not know whether Beckham could play this year.
But after a week of seemingly playing down the chance of a signing, Jones has now given Cowboy fans a positive update on their pursuit of Beckham.
When asked if the Cowboys have moved on from Beckham, he said: "Not all. Not all. With a big exclamation point! That’s all I got on that."
Speaking last week, Beckham admitted that he is looking to return in time to play a part in the playoffs after the regular season concludes in January, which is in line with Micah Parsons sentiments, had stated that Beckham told him he'd be ready to play by the middle of January.
Beckham said: I haven't made a decision, and for me, I would like to be in a stable environment, get up at 6 am, leave at 6 pm for four weeks, and then let's talk about it. I’ve played football for a long time. I’m not saying that I couldn't step in and play regular season, but I don't see the point. I really don't. I would rather play when the pressure is on."
Beckham is reportedly looking for a long-term deal, rather than settling on a short-term offer that would once again see him become a free agent this off-season.
It remains to be seen if the Cowboys will offer Beckham with a multi-year deal, with the team set to be in cap space difficulties, with Trevon Diggs, Micah Parsons and Tony Pollard all needing to be paid in the coming years.
