Hey, there’s a familiar face. Free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was in attendance for Sunday’s clash between the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers to support his old college teammates Jarvis Landry and Tyrann Mathieu. Beckham, Landry, and Mathieu played together with the LSU Tigers and have remained close over the decade since.
Now Beckham is watching from the field-level suites in a black and gold 504 Boyz shirt as his friends suit up for their hometown team. All three of them are New Orleans legends — Beckham starred at the powerhouse Isidore Newman High School, with Mathieu excelling for St. Augustine and Landry writing his own legend at Lutcher High School, 45 miles from the Superdome.
Beckham remains unsigned while recovering from a second ACL injury suffered in the Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl LVI win. He’s been hitting the circuit and was at the Rams’ home opener last week. Interestingly, Landry was spotted wearing a shirt featuring Beckham from their LSU days during pregame warmups. It would be fun to see Beckham sign with the already-loaded Saints receiving corps once he’s healthy (he called them the “right place, wrong time” when they made a strong recruiting push last year) but we probably shouldn’t look too deeply into this. Probably.
