Octopus Energy offers £50 credit for switch-over, despite no release of price cap rates

Octopus Energy, one of the UK's leading energy suppliers, are offering new customers £50 credit each for them and a friend if they switch over to their company - despite not making a decision on their new energy prices yet.

The popular energy supplier is yet to make a decision on their prices, following the news that that the energy price cap will increase to £3,549 for a typical dual fuel household from October 1, 2022. Ofgem, the energy regulator, announced in August that the energy price cap on variable tariffs will increase to £3,549 a year for a typical household from October 2022.

The company have released a new deal that if a friend recommends a customer to switch to their business, both parties will receive £50 credit in their meter if they sign up using the link they will be provided. However, Octopus Energy have yet to let their customers on variable tariffs know how they will be affected by the price cap rise.

Many disgruntled customers took to social media to vent their frustrations at the lack of information being provided. One Twitter user wrote: "Is that Octopus Energy? Looks like their website. I’m with them, but haven’t been contacted with my new rates yet. Dreading it."

Another said: "@OctopusEnergy this is a moment you decide what long term customer value means to you. We won't forget if you rinse us and make excessive profits as a result of your decision in 10 days time. #EnergyCrisis @mrjamesob."

While a third wrote: "Can you say when you will be making the decision and contacting us?"

You can visit the Octopus Energy website here for updates on their decision regarding the rise in the price cap.
