The "Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered" has made its way to Nintendo Switch 2. Of course, the new port is already drawing attention for an unexpected reason.
It runs better than some players expected.
The Switch 2 version is not perfect. It still has performance issues and bugs. Even so, its overall results have started a new discussion among fans.
Many players now want Bethesda to bring some of its improvements to other platforms.
Bethesda Responds to 'Oblivion Remastered' Feedback
Bethesda launched the Switch 2 version on August 11. The remaster was first released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It quickly became one of the year's biggest game releases.
The launch also came with its share of problems. Players reported crashes, bugs, blurry graphics, and uneven performance. The Xbox Series S version faced particular criticism over its image quality.
Two updates have already been released. However, players have continued to ask for more fixes, according to Digital Foundry. The absence of a new patch since July 2025 has added to that frustration.
The Switch 2 release has now changed the conversation.
Despite using less powerful hardware than current-generation consoles, the game appears relatively stable in many situations.
Why 'Oblivion Remastered' Looks Sharper on Switch 2
One major factor is the technology inside Nintendo's new console. The Switch 2 uses Nvidia hardware. That allows Oblivion Remastered to use DLSS upscaling.
DLSS can improve image clarity while helping the game maintain performance. This appears to give the Switch 2 version an advantage over the Xbox Series S version in some areas.
PlayStation and Xbox consoles use AMD hardware. Because of that, Bethesda cannot simply add Nvidia's DLSS technology to those versions.
There may be more to the Switch 2 improvements, though, per Kotaku.
The port also appears to include adjustments to draw distances and visual detail. Those changes are particularly interesting to players on other platforms.
If some of these optimizations are not tied directly to Switch 2 hardware, Bethesda could potentially use them elsewhere.
Bethesda Says More Updates Could Be Coming
Bethesda has now acknowledged the growing demand for another "Oblivion Remastered" update.
On August 12, the company said it had heard players asking for another patch. More importantly, Bethesda said it was looking at optimizations used in the Switch 2 version.
The company is checking whether some of those improvements can also be introduced on other platforms. That does not guarantee a major update for PlayStation, Xbox, or PC. However, it gives players a reason to remain hopeful.
The Switch 2 port still has problems of its own. Frame-pacing issues and bugs have been reported. Even so, its performance has raised expectations for the long-awaited third patch.
Switch 2 Physical Copies Are Also Selling Out
Performance is not the only reason the Switch 2 release is attracting attention. In fact, finding physical copies has become an extra challenge to overcome for gamers.
The release has received praise for including the full game directly on the cartridge. Demand, however, appears to have outpaced the available supply. Several major retailers have reportedly sold out.
Bethesda says more physical copies are expected to reach retailers later this month.
