O'Riley hails Celtic support as one of the best in the world

An elated Matt O'Riley declared the Celtic faithful as among the best supporters in the world following his side's 5-0 win over Kilmarnock on Wednesday night.

The 23-year-old contributed on the night with a brace in the Hoops' thrashing of Kilmarnock at Rugby Park, with Adam Idah, Daizen Maeda and James Forrest also finding the net over 90 minutes.

Speaking to Celtic TV on the pitch shortly after the final whistle, O'Riley praised the support Celtic fans offer from the stands week-in, week-out and spoke highly of his manager, Brendan Rodgers.

He said: "The fans are just amazing. This is what it's all about. I don't think there are many clubs in the world who have a fanbase like this. We're just going to take it in and enjoy it.

"Brendan has been very pivotal, he's the manager, he's given me the chance to play so of course I'm forever grateful to him."

O'Riley's stellar contributions this season earned him the club's own Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year awards – a ceremony that took place at the OVO Hydro last weekend.

'There aren't many clubs in the world with fans like this' - O'Riley

There, ex-Celtic manager Gordon Strachan delivered a hilarious speech as he poked fun at O'Riley's X-rated interview on Sky Sports.

The former Celtic manager laughed at O'Riley's TV slip-up as he mentioned "balls" and "s***" in the same post-match interview.

Back on the Rugby Park pitch and O'Riley acknowledged he and his teammates desire to celebrate their title win, but said focus then quickly shifts to Saturday's remaining Scottish Premiership fixture, before the Scottish Cup Final 2024 against Rangers on May 25.

O'Riley said: "It's been good, it's been good. It's been a long season, really long. But we've still got a cup final to go, and one more game on Saturday, but we're going to enjoy tonight."
