New York City FC has announced a significant partnership with Etihad Airways, naming their upcoming $780 million, 25,000-seat stadium in Queens, New York, as Etihad Park. The 20-year agreement solidifies the relationship between the Major League Soccer team and the national airline of the United Arab Emirates. The stadium is set to open in 2027 next to Citi Field, home of the New York Mets.

City Football Group, the parent company of England's Manchester City, owns NYCFC. The revenue generated from this deal will directly benefit the MLS team, separate from the parent company or the English club. Etihad Airways has been a long-standing partner of NYCFC, serving as the shirt sponsor since 2014.

Etihad's involvement extends beyond sponsorship, as they have collaborated with NYCFC on various community initiatives. The airline's interest in the New York market aligns with their strategic commercial goals, emphasizing the significance of the partnership.

NYCFC, established in 2015, has primarily played home games at Yankee Stadium due to scheduling conflicts. However, they have also utilized Citi Field and other venues for certain matches. The team's upcoming Eastern Conference semifinal against the New York Red Bulls will take place at Citi Field.

The construction of the new stadium was approved by the New York City Council in April as part of a larger redevelopment project in Willets Point. This redevelopment plan includes housing units, a school, hotel, and retail stores. Pre-construction activities are underway, with a groundbreaking expected before the end of the year.

The new stadium's location will facilitate smoother scheduling with other events in the area, such as Mets games and the U.S. Open. Additionally, MLS season ticket holders will receive priority access to hospitality tickets for the 2026 World Cup, offering exclusive opportunities to purchase suites and club seats.

Overall, the partnership between NYCFC and Etihad Airways marks a significant milestone for the club as they prepare to move into their new state-of-the-art stadium in 2027, enhancing the fan experience and solidifying their presence in the New York sports landscape.
