NY woman and her $360K savings become target of fake Microsoft employee. But then he falls for fake gold

Didi Zou, 39, is facing serious charges in New York City for allegedly attempting to scam an elderly woman from Buffalo out of her savings of $360,000. Authorities tracked his movements through New Jersey and Indiana, and the FBI was finally able to arrest him using an elaborate fake gold scheme.

Fox identified Zou as a Chinese national seeking asylum in New York. Following his arrest in June, he was charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering. He is being represented by public defender Jeffrey T. Bagley, who, during preliminary hearings, described Zou’s alleged crimes as “white collar” and “non-violent” in a bid to secure a more lenient sentence.
