The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) is making significant strides in its expansion process, with plans to introduce a 16th team for the 2026 season. NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman has indicated that the league is well on track to select the location and ownership group for the new team by the beginning of Q4 in October 2024.
Unlike previous expansion rounds, the NWSL is now starting from a more refined position, attracting about a dozen prospective ownership groups who have signed non-disclosure agreements. This curated approach aims to ensure that potential investors understand the expectations for investment, leading to more sophisticated discussions and advanced progress in the bidding process.
