Hoping to pick up the new Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti GPU? We're covering everything from where to buy to specifications, so you can make an informed purchase.
The RTX 4070 Ti graphics card was announced at the Nvidia CES 2023 Keynote and is confirmed to be released on Thursday, January 5 (which is today at the time of writing, whoop whoop!). Nvidia claimed it would have a starting price of $799, but so far it seems like this won't be the realistic cost for most people due to a multitude of reasons.
I was super excited when I first saw the specs and price for the card announced at CES. It was a repackaging of the 4080 12GB, which was 'unlaunched' late last year, but it still felt quite promising. However, since reviews have started to trickle out, it seems like this GPU isn't really providing the best bang for the buck.
I'll admit, I haven't had the chance to test and benchmark it myself, so I'm taking other opinions with a grain of salt and keeping my hopes up. We'll be sure to update you guys once we've been able to use the card for ourselves.
Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti GPU – where to buy
The card is currently available to buy in both the UK and US. There are multiple retailers stocking the card and prices are varying at the moment due to the range of different GPUs coming from partner retailers. Some of the specifications and aesthetics will be different depending on which edition you pick up so be sure to double-check before hitting buy.
UK Retailers:
- Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti GPU at Overclockers UK: There are loads of cards for sale at the site right now, and some editions are available for pre-order if you're looking for a specific version.
- Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti GPU at Nvidia : Right now Nvidia isn't selling cards yet but you can find information on all available retailers.
- Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti GPU at Scan : There are a few options available for purchase right now at Scan, however, these are slightly more expensive than other retailers with the lowest cost coming in at £923.99.
- Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti GPU at Box : Right now there is only one card from MSI available at Box, but we're hoping others will be listed soon.
US Retailers:
- Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti GPU at Nvidia : Similar to the UK site, there are no cards available for purchase right now directly from Nvidia but you can find information about other retailers here.
- Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti GPU at Best Buy: There is a wide range of cards for sale at Best Buy right now, some are still marked as coming soon if you're on the hunt for a specific edition that hasn't been released just yet.
Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti GPU – costs
Nvidia originally stated that the card would be starting at £799 / $799 / AU$1479. However, so far there have been no cards available at this price. The cheapest we have been able to find that card in the UK is £848.99 at Overclockers UK. The lowest cost card in the US is $839.99 at Best Buy.
The reason why this card is coming in at above retail from partners is down to the fact that it is a repackaged RTX 4080 12GB which was meant to come in at $899. This means that most partners were expecting to charge closer to said amount for the card and have designed the GPU to reflect this.
It was likely that the release of the AMD RX 7900 Series prompted Nvidia to reduce the cost from the original retail price. These cards, which came after the RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 releases, were much more aggressively priced, coming at either $999 or $899 based on which edition you picked up.
Despite the reduction, the Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti is still priced $200 higher than the retail cost of the previous generation RTX 3070 Ti, which has fans somewhat disappointed. This seems to be the new normal for mid-range cards.
Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti GPU – release date and stock issues
The release date for the card was January 5, 2023. This was just two days after the card was officially announced at CES 2023. It is currently available at a wide range of retailers in multiple regions. We were originally hoping to see the RTX 4070 released on the same day, but this unfortunately wasn't the case.
As of yet, it is hard to predict stock issues. Graphics cards generally face issues with stock due to the high demand and increase in cryptocurrency mining in recent years meaning it is likely that the card will sell out.
However, one thing to keep in mind is that the card has had a very poor reception since its release, with press across the board giving generally poor reviews, this could mean demand is much lower leading to an easier time purchasing.
Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti GPU specifications
The specifications of this card are somewhat under fire as they are identical to that of the unlaunched 4080 12GB Nvidia attempted to release in November 2022. This confirmed that these new 4070 Ti's are just repackaged editions of the old 4080 12GB. At face value, this might sound great as you're getting 4080 level performance for the cost of a 4070 Ti but reviews have been coming in stating that for the cost the card has been pretty underwhelming.
- NVIDIA CUDA Cores: 7680
- Boost Clock (GHz): 2.61
- Memory Size: 12 GB
- Memory Type: GDDR6X
- Max Display Resolution: 4K at 240Hz or 8K at 60Hz with DSC
This card hosts AD104 GPU die, which has 7,680 CUDA cores, 240 tensor cores, and 60 streaming multiprocessors. You'll also find 12GB of GDDR6X VRAM which was the namesake of the RTX 4080 12GB. This runs at a speed of 21Gbps and has a memory bandwidth of 504 GB/s. The boost clock of the RTX 4070 Ti is 2,610MHz.
Since power has been a big factor to consider with the new generation of graphics cards, you'll be glad to know that the RTX 4070 Ti will have a decent 285W TDP. In most cases, you won't need to upgrade your PSU.
