Nugelato causes a stir with ice cream inspired by Tayto cheese and onion chocolate bar

A Northern Ireland ice cream chain has divided opinions with its new ice cream flavour inspired by Tayto's cheese and onion chocolate bars.

Nugelato are dishing out the cheese and onion chocolate ice cream at their 11 outlets across Northern Ireland, with some fans saying it's the "best collab ever" while others have labelled it a "crime."

Four videos have been posted to the business' TikTok profile showing off the flavour, with a combined 353,000 views.

They create all their ice cream in store from scratch, and pride themselves on being to create any flavour.

Although being famous for their traditional vanilla flavour, Nugelato are best known for their Nuggy Pots, with the team always working on new ideas and unique twists which they often introduce as weekly specials.

Speaking to Belfast Live about their new flavour, owner Michael Nugent said: "Our gelato masters love experimenting with new flavours and on this occasion we were inspired by the new Tayto product. We thought we would put the idea to the vote of our customers.

"It’s proved the most controversial flavour thus far but has a strangely delicious flavour profile with a bit of sweet and savoury in there!

"The good news is that if you’re not a fan of cheese and onion chocolate crisp flavour, we are still creating all your favourites which are on offer across our 11 outlets in NI."

The popular ice cream chain was founded in 2015 by couple Caitriona Doherty and Michael Nugent, whose family have been handcrafting ice cream for more than 80 years.
