A young child has been found dead in a remote part of the Northern Territory after being reported missing.
NT Police said in a statement that the child was reported missing on Friday afternoon in the East Arnhem Land region.
Police launched an initial search and rescue response, but the child was found dead later in the afternoon near their home.
No detail has been released about the cause of the child's death.
The ABC understands the death is not being treated as suspicious.
Police have not named the community in which the child died and said no further information would be released "for the privacy of the family".
"Police are working with the family," police said in a statement.
"Investigations are ongoing and a report will be prepared for the coroner."
