NSW Health has announced it will scale back its daily COVID-19 updates from Monday.
Detailed information about COVID cases, deaths and vaccination rates across the state will instead be detailed in weekly surveillance reports posted on the NSW Health website.
The department will continue to post daily case numbers and deaths on social media.
A NSW Health spokesperson said the "time had come" for the department to pull back its level of reporting on COVID cases and deaths.
"The 11:00am updates have served their purpose and will now come to an end," the spokesman said.
Shadow Health Minister Ryan Park stressed the need for ongoing communication from the government as the virus continued to evolve.
"It's important we continue to get regular updates from Health, particularly if there are new variants or changes to public health orders," Mr Park said.
Daily COVID updates from NSW Health have been an important feature of the pandemic since the virus first entered Australia in January 2020.
The routine 11:00am press conference from former NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian became a staple of life in lockdown for millions throughout 2021.
When Ms Berejiklian announced the end of the daily press conference in September last year, her decision was met with significant backlash from concerned residents.
But high vaccination rates and the government's changing approach to COVID-19 have seen changes in community attitudes too.
NSW recorded 15,283 new COVID cases and 13 deaths in the 24 hours to 4pm yesterday.
Five of the fatalities were aged in their 70s, five were in their 80s and three were in their 90s.
It brings the total number of COVID-related deaths in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic to 2,670.
There are 1,632 people in hospital in NSW with the virus, including 63 people in intensive care.
