MUMBAI: Amid the ongoing slugfest between the Sena and the BJP-led Centre, the BEST on Friday floated fresh tenders to procure 1,400 single-decker electric buses for Mumbai. The move comes close on the heels of Sena-led committee withdrawing a proposal to procure 1,200 single-decker buses under the central scheme earlier this week, alleging that “the Centre had not given a single paise subsidy for the project”.
Sources in the Sena said the BEST will now procure single-decker electric buses with subsidy from the state government under the Maharashtra Clean Air Project (MCAP) of the environment ministry instead of the central government’s FAME-2 subsidy scheme.
