Novak Djokovic, the renowned tennis player, has made the decision to withdraw from the upcoming US Open tuneup tournament in Montreal. This comes following his recent victory over Rafael Nadal at the Paris Olympics, where he emerged victorious in straight sets at Roland Garros, advancing to the third round of the Summer Games.
The National Bank Open, an ATP Masters 1000 event scheduled to commence on August 6, was set to feature Djokovic. However, the tournament organizers confirmed his withdrawal from the competition. Djokovic, who holds an impressive record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles, is yet to secure an Olympic gold medal.
Valerie Tetreault, the tournament director of the National Bank Open, expressed understanding and support for Djokovic's decision, stating, 'While we're disappointed that Novak will be unable to take part in this year's tournament, we understand his decision and wish him the best at the Olympics and the remainder of his season.'
In light of Djokovic's withdrawal, Roman Safiullin has been selected to fill his spot in the main draw of the tournament.
