Notts County boss explains Langstaff and Scott mindset ahead of Gateshead return

Notts County manager Luke Williams has insisted both Macauley Langstaff and Cedwyn Scott will take no prisoners when they return to former club Gateshead on Tuesday evening.

The Magpies secured the double signing early on in this summer's transfer window, with the pair scoring 52 goals between them as Mike Williamson's side won promotion from the National League North last campaign.

And Langstaff in particular has impressed since his arrival at Meadow Lane, scoring twice on the opening day against Maidenhead and grabbing an assist for Kairo Mitchell's strike against Boreham Wood on Saturday.

While Williams expects a warm reception for the former Gateshead pair, they may lose some fans along the way should they contribute to the scoreline.

"They want to play against everyone but there is that added thing that it is a former club, and you want to show them how good you are and that is completely natural," said Williams.

"I'm sure the guys are going to be really focused for this one in particular.

"I would be very surprised with anything over than a warm welcome from the beginning because, not just for their contribution which was exceptional, but both of them as men are very likeable guys.

"I'm sure the fans will have had some interaction with them and they can sense the character, but they are here now and committed to us and so, if they have to go and inflict on their former employers, they will and potentially they will lose a few adoring fans along the way."

The Magpies go into the game top of the National League after two fixtures, with no side in the division winning their opening two matches. Notts currently sit on four points along with eight other teams in the league, sharing the same goal difference as second-placed, Solihull Moors which places them at the summit.

And the competitiveness of the league has arguably improved in recent years, with tomorrow's hosts having already earned two excellent points against Dagenham and Redbridge and Barnet, with Williams insisting it will not be an easy night in the North East.

"I know their manager and I know he is outstanding, so I expect them to be organised and they are going to be motivated by the manager," he added.

"But, we should go there with a strong mentality ourselves that will give us a chance to win the game, but we know that it's not going to be easy at all, it is going to be a tough day for us but we are prepared for that."

Following their draw at Boreham Wood, defender Aden Baldwin was replaced 10 minutes from time, which Williams confirmed after that he had a sore Achilles tendon which had persisted in pre-season.

Whilst not confirming Baldwin's absence from the matchday squad tomorrow, he admitted they are still monitoring the condition of a few players within his ranks.

"We are still assessing one or two, one or two players did not take part in any bits of physical work because we are trying to give them the best possible chance to recover.

"Some injuries you can't measure when it's contact and bad tackles, but muscular injuries you can try to manage with being intelligent with what we do.

"But by and large, we are in good shape for Tuesday."
