Described as ‘the perfect place to live when the sun's out’, people have nothing but positive things to say about Attenborough. From the independent businesses to the Attenborough Nature Reserve, those who have lived in the area for years love the ‘peaceful’ village.
With Chilwell and Beeston not too far too away, people regularly use public transport to get out and about but love walking around the ‘friendly’ area.
Betty Gardener, 65, moved to Attenborough five years ago when she retired.

Betty said: “I love living around here. It’s mostly quiet, people are respectful and it’s the perfect place to live when the sun’s out.
“A lot of people on my road take pride in their gardens and there’s never a person who passes without saying 'hello'. I travel into Beeston often and the buses are always on time.”
Betty continued: “There are lots of dog walkers around Attenborough and the nature reserve attracts many people too.”
Attenborough Nature Reserve was established in 1966. British broadcaster Sir David Attenborough opened the reserve, with Sir David back in 2005 to open the Nature Reserve Centre.
Alan Prichard, 75, knows the Attenborough area well. Now retired, he said: “There's little trouble area here but I can’t understand why it isn’t popular with outsiders.”
Alan continued: “We’re blessed with a peaceful environment and we have the wonderful Nature Reserve.”
Attenborough has a population of around 2,238. One of the most known pubs in the village is the Blue Bell.
Matt Dean, 39, lives in Attenborough. Matt, who works in construction, said: “You get quite a bit of traffic in some places around here because it’s people going into other areas of the city but I like it round here, I’ve lived here eight years and there’s not a bad thing I can think of.”
Matt continued: “I like the café on the nature reserve and The Cadland isn’t too bad for a pint.”
Gary Robinson, who is the owner of TGR Embroidery in Nottingham Road, said: “The shops have been here five years and it’s alright. It’s nice, dead friendly and you get a lot of repeat orders where 99.9% of our customers are lovely!
“There’s a lot of dog walkers in the area.”
