Nottinghamshire takeaway launches UK's biggest chippy tea weighing more than 1st

Nottinghamshire's Chip Inn is famed for its supersize portions but this time it's really outdone itself. The Codfather is the most epic yet - in fact it's the biggest portion of fish and chips in the UK according to the owners of the Huthwaite takeaway.

The chippy tea consists of four battered cod, eight sausages, four fish cakes, three portions of chips and ten pots of mushy peas, baked beans, curry and gravy. Costing £40, the whopping meal weigh around 1st 4lbs.

It is served in a 20in pizza box, so full that it has to be wrapped in Sellotape to stop it bursting open. There's a humungous 4,500 calories of fried food - and that doesn't include the sauces.

Chip Inn's new takeaway beats its previous belly-busting inventions that have all gone viral. The world's biggest kebab box and the Mega Beast box with two 10in pizzas, chips, cheese, doner kebab meat, chicken kebab meat, salad, onion rings and chicken nuggets are nothing in comparison to the latest creation.

The chip shop, in Sutton Road, attracts customers from across the country and has even had visitors from Florida, who were visiting London, but took a detour to north Notts after seeing the chippy online.

Megann Altinoz, 42, who owns the shop with husband Erdal, 45, said: "It's the largest UK fish and chip box in the UK. It weighs over a stone. It's really difficult to pick it up. We go round with Sellotape but I can't do that bit as it's just too heavy so I have to get someone to help me with that. It's like a workout.

"The chippy also does a smaller version in a 12in box so we just thought we'd do something different. Once everyone saw it they were like 'we need that.' We have had people travelling for about two hours."

The box, said Megann, isn't designed as a man vs food eating challenge. "I wouldn't recommend that, no way. There's lots of people who have said 'I'll take that on.' From watching the video they might think that but if they got it in their hands they would think differently.

"It easily feeds four or five adults with some left over or maybe a big family with quite a few children. If you bought it all separately you would pay a lot more, maybe getting on for £60 so even though it does seem quite an expensive box you are getting quite a bargain.

"We just come up with different things now and again and think we'll give that a try. We share it on Facebook and if someone picks up on it and likes it, it gets shared.

The Codfather has helped to boost business at what is traditionally a quiet time of the year. Megann said: "For any sort of takeaway or cafe, January to March is always really, really slow. People are spent up after Christmas, they are paying holidays off, starting the gym so we always have quite a tough time.

"But this year, in particular with the cost of living and gas and electric prices we were dreading it, we were thinking what is going to happen, we even considered we might have to close, so it really has helped us out a lot. It could not have come at a better time."

Chip Inn first shot to fame in 2018. Junk food lovers were desperate to get their hands on the £15 Double Decker after a Facebook video of the chips, cheese, doner and chicken kebab meat, more chips and cheese, went viral with more than two million views.
