Nottinghamshire school's response to mum's claim autistic son left site after 'meltdown'

Staff at a school in Nottinghamshire have responded to concerns raised by a mum who claims her autistic son was able to leave the site after a 'meltdown'. Laura Parkin, 35, said the alleged incident at the Manor Academy in Mansfield Woodhouse happened after her 12-year-old boy Ollie was told he wouldn't be able to attend mainstream lessons anymore.

She explained Ollie, who also has ADHD, goes to school two hours a day and struggles. She said he received additional support but claimed Ollie was told last week he "wasn't allowed to attend mainstream lessons anymore".

The alleged incident "sent him into a meltdown", she said, and Ms Parkin claimed Ollie was subsequently "let out of school". Ms Parkin raised concerns over how the school, in Park Hall Road, handled the situation, saying she had made a formal complaint.
