Nottinghamshire road will be closed 'for several hours' as woman airlifted to hospital

A Nottinghamshire road will remain closed "for several hours" after a woman was seriously injured in a collision, police say. London Road in Retford has been closed in both directions after a collision between a car and a cyclist by the junction into Lidl.

The cyclist, a woman in her 70s, was taken to hospital by air ambulance and officers from Nottinghamshire Police's collisions investigation unit are investigating what happened, reports Lincolnshire Live. Insp Sam Birch, of Notts Police, said emergency services were called to the scene at around 10.15am after receiving reports of a road traffic collision.

He said: "A cyclist suffered serious injuries after being in a collision with a car close to the Lidl supermarket. The woman, aged in her 70s, was taken to hospital by air ambulance.

"Road closures are currently in place in London Road as officers thoroughly investigate what happened. Roads are likely to remain closed for several hours and motorists are advised to avoid the area."

Anyone with information, CCTV or dash-cam footage that is relevant to the incident and could assist officers is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 151 of December 14. Alternatively, they can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
