Nottinghamshire Police statement over reports pupil shot with BB gun at Nottingham school

Police are investigating reports that a pupil was shot with a BB gun. The incident at the Ellis Guilford School, in Basford, was reported to have happened at around 10.15am on Wednesday, July 13.

The school previously said it had launched its own investigation, with the incident believed to have happened during a lesson. Police have since said they're looking into what happened, too, and working with the school.

Inspector Gordon Fenwick, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “A 16-year-old girl is understood to have suffered minor injuries after being assaulted. We will be working closely with the school’s safeguarding team to support the victim, fully investigate the incident and take positive action to resolve the issue.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish what happened but we are satisfied that this was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to anyone’s safety." Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 101, quoting incident 618 of July 13, or the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

On Wednesday, the school said in a statement: “The school launched an immediate investigation into the incident with a view to disciplinary action. The police have now been notified and the school will be offering full support with their enquiries. We are confident that this was an isolated incident, and that Ellis Guilford remains a safe environment for our pupils.”
