Nottinghamshire heart attack victims left waiting 47 minutes on average for ambulance

Heart attack victims in a part of Nottinghamshire are being left waiting for more than three quarters of an hour on average for an ambulance. NHS statistics showed people in the Newark and Sherwood district were left waiting an average of nearly 47 minutes for category two calls, which cover things like heart attacks and strokes.

The NHS target is 18 minutes. The 2021/22 data, released following a freedom of information request by the Liberal Democrats, showed a postcode lottery, with patients in some areas waiting three times as long for life-threatening calls.

Nottinghamshire NHS said it was working to mitigate winter pressures across the system. Elsewhere in Nottinghamshire, the Bassetlaw Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) area had an average wait of 44 minutes.
