A Nottinghamshire chippy has ended the week on a high after winning a top prize at the British Pie Awards. The Cod's Scallops' Steak and Scale pie was crowned the country's best fish and chip shop pie, beating off 18 other mouth-watering entries in the category.
John Molnar, owner of the chip shop chain, said: "We're extremely proud that our pie has been nationally recognised as the best in the UK and sits equally along side our world class fish and chips."
The award-winning pie is made in-house using chuck steak and the chippy's own pale ale, made by Shipstone's, which goes by the name of Scale Ale. The filling is encased in a rich buttery shortcrust pastry.

The pies are on sale at the chip shops in Wollaton, Carrington, Wilford, Long Eaton in Derbyshire, and Harborne near Birmingham, alongside chicken, ham and leek pies and chunky fish pies.
It's not the first time the Steak and Scale pie has wowed the experts. It also triumphed at the 2019 awards at the annual competition in Leicestershire's rural food capita, Melton Mowbray.
This year saw a record number of more than 900 pies entered in 23 classes for hot, cold, sweet and savoury, with some rather unusual flavours such as Marmite and cheese , a kebab pie and Baldy’s ‘Nearly As Good As Mama Joan's Lasagne Pie’.
They were judged by 86 pie connoisseurs from Selfridges, Tesco’s , Fortnum & Mason and Harrods, as well as as chefs and pie experts.
Matthew O’Callaghan, chairman of the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association and host of the British Pie Awards, said: “We are always highly encouraged to see the nation’s love of pies at these annual awards, and this year there has been a huge level of excitement and creativity.
"The Cod's Scallops has overcome exceptionally stiff competition in its categories. These awards celebrate the skill of British piemakers across the nation, so I’d like to say a particular congratulations to them for this success.”
