Nottinghamshire bonfire event to be monitored after 'chaos' last year

Measures have been taken to improve parking at a bonfire night event after last year's huge turnout resulted in 'chaos'. Lengthy queues of traffic resulted in spectators missing the firework display staged by Mellish Rugby Club, between Arnold and Mapperley, in 2021.

The club apologised after gates were closed and the display was set off early, leading to complaints from frustrated parents, whose children were left disappointed. Since this year's free annual bonfire at Forest Recreation Ground has been axed due to budget restraints, there could be a bigger turnout once again at the rugby club's event on Saturday, November 5.

A spokesman for the club said: "After the news that Nottingham City Council has cancelled the bonfire event at the Forest Recreation Ground we will be monitoring numbers closely. If we reach capacity we will need to close the gate and stop any further admissions.
