Nottinghamshire could be set to face up to 15 hours of heavy rain this week as the Met Office issues a new weather warning. The alert covers large parts of northern England and the East Midlands.
The warning is in force from midnight to 3pm on Thursday (March 16) - potentially meaning 15 hours worth of wet and windy conditions. The yellow alert warns of persistent rain, which will be particularly heavy over southwest facing hills and is likely to cause some difficult travel conditions in the East Midlands.
The weather organisation also warns of possibility of spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer. A spokesperson added: "Rain is expected to set in during Wednesday evening, turning particularly heavy and persistent overnight especially over southwest facing hills. 40-70 mm is likely quite widely.

"The wettest spots possibly seeing in excess of 100 mm of rain. The rain will be coupled with generally windy conditions which is likely to further reduce visibility from spray. Conditions will slowly improve through Thursday afternoon."
In Nottingham, on Thursday, it's forecast to feel much more mild than of late thanks to 13C highs of lows of 9C - a stark difference to the sub-zero figures that plagued the country just days ago when Storm Larisa hit with arctic airmass and widespread snow. However, residents are being urged to keep an umbrella with them in case of heavy downpours in the morning through to early afternoon.
According to the Met Office, there is a high chance of rain to start the day under cloudy skies. But turning drier and brighter from 3pm onward.
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Helen Caughey said: “The transition to milder air in the second half of the week might be welcome for some, but it brings with it wet and windy conditions, as low pressure moves in from the west, which will bring some heavy and persistent rain to some western and northern areas, as well as some gusty winds, especially for exposed coastal areas.”
Warnings have been issued for Thursday, with the wettest spots possibly seeing in excess of 100mm of rain. Where the boundary between mild and cold weather lies over the weekend is subject to some uncertainty at the moment.
