Nottingham University Hospitals Trust has issued an update on plans for a new helipad as part of a major transformation programme. The ‘Tomorrow’s NUH ’ programme has been described as a ‘once in a generation’ opportunity to redevelop hospital services to address health inequalities and spark economic regeneration.
NUH, made up of Queen’s Medical Centre and City Hospital, was chosen as one of 40 major hospitals to be funded by the Government to make the changes. The plans could mean maternity and neonatal services are merged at Queen’s Medical Centre in a new Women’s and Children’s hospital.
An on-site helipad could also be built at Queen’s Medical Centre, which has been a “longstanding ambition” for NUH. The trust said a helipad is important in reducing the risk for severely injured patients.
