The director of communications at Nottingham hospitals has resigned after blocking bereaved families on social media. Tiffany Jones was suspended by Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) in August after blocking a number of parents on Twitter who lost their babies after failings in maternity care.
She subsequently apologised and deleted her Twitter account. Anthony May, chief executive at the trust, said Ms Jones had made the decision to resign.
"The Trust can confirm that no disciplinary investigation or action was taken against Tiffany", he said in a statement. "We would like to thank her for her contributions to the organisation since she joined in 2019, such as our new value-based awards programme, work on the well-led improvement programme and bringing ‘24 Hours in A&E’ to Nottingham.
"We wish Tiffany the best for the future.” Jack Adlam, who was drafted in from NHS England in the Midlands in September, will continue as acting director of communications. NUH will advertise the post in the new year.
Kim Errington, whose baby Teddy Rozkalns died after systematic failings at City Hospital, was one of parents who had been blocked. She told Nottinghamshire Live at the time: "There are avoidable reoccurring themes in both the poor care we families have received as well as the responses and attitudes of those senior staff at Nottingham Hospitals.
"Our babies can not be brought back," she said, but added their lives now can be made more bearable if "a human approach" is taken. Ms Jones previously said: "I apologise wholeheartedly for the upset my decision to block some individuals from my personal Twitter account may have unintentionally caused. I have reflected and made the decision to delete my Twitter account."
