A review into Nottingham hospitals' maternity services has seen hundreds of families come forward in the space of two weeks. The probe, which was launched by Nottingham CCG and NHS England last year, has received input from 387 families so far.
The number more than quadrupled in the space of two weeks, rising from 84 on March 9. The review was launched into the maternity services at Nottingham University Hospitals, the NHS trust that runs Queen's Medical Centre and City Hospital, after they were rated 'inadequate' by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
More than 40 babies had suffered brain damage and 19 had been stillborn in the city between 2010 and 2020, resulting in millions of pounds being paid out by the trust in negligence claims. Explaining the likely reason for the increase in families coming forward, the review team said: "This is directly linked to social media advertising which encouraged families who wish to share their experience of maternity services to contact us through our website."
