A Nottingham grandma resorted to pulling out her own tooth as she waited five months for a dentist appointment while in excruciating pain. Jacqueline Shepherd, 56, said she went through 'sheer hell' as she was unable to see a dentist after developing severe toothache in February this year.
The grandma, from St Ann's, told Nottinghamshire Live the "horrendous" pain led her to remove one of her own teeth. "I have a high pain threshold but it was too painful," she said. "I kept twisting it - it took me two days to finally get it out."
A recent survey of dentists in Nottingham by Nottinghamshire Live showed that no dentists were offering NHS appointments to new patients. Ms Shepherd, who lives alone and uses a wheelchair, said the pain began due to medication that caused a vitamin D deficiency and loosened her teeth.
