Nottingham Forest transfers: Agent drops hint, sanction 'set', plan confirmed

Even during a winter World Cup, Nottingham Forest transfer rumours are still running rife.

The club have already announced one January transfer, and it is still the first week of December, so it looks like there could be a big month ahead at the turn of the new year.

There are still plenty of players linked with Nottingham Forest, including Premier League defenders and lesser-known strikers. Below is a round-up of the latest Reds transfer news.

Hint dropped in £21m race

Nottingham Forest's transfer target Djibril Sow has reportedly already been the subject of 'enquiries' from four Premier League clubs ahead of the January transfer window.

The Switzerland international is currently at the World Cup alongside Reds midfielder Remo Freuler and has started all three of their group stage games, even assisting Xherdan Shaqiri's opener against Serbia on Friday while playing as an attacking midfield. In the round of 16, Sow and Co. face Portugal and the prospect of reaching the quarter-finals for the first time since the 1954 edition which was held in their homeland.

Forest reportedly wanted the central midfielder during the summer, with an initial £17 million transfer bid that could have risen by a further four million in add-ons said to have been submitted and a four-year contract on offer to move to the City Ground. The player, though, decided to stay with Eintracht Frankfurt ahead of their Champions League campaign.

Plan confirmed ahead of January window

Nottingham Forest have confirmed that Gustavo Scarpa will be a part of their training camp squad travelling to Greece next week.

The one-cap Brazil international officially joins the Reds on January 1 after being announced as their latest signing but can train with the team ahead of that date. Scarpa, 28, arrived in England earlier this week and had some time to settle in the city before being due to fly out to the Greek capital, Athens, with the full squad.

Head coach Steve Cooper and company have a six-day training camp taking place in those warmer climes next week. As well as training, Forest also face a pair of mid-season friendly matches against Greek Super League sides Atromitos and - fellow Evangelos Marinakis -owned club - Olympiacos.

Everton 'set' to sanction transfer

Nottingham Forest are reportedly at the 'front of the queue' to sign Everton central defender Michael Keane amid competition from as many as three other Premier League clubs.

Keane, 29, has made just three appearances in all competitions this season for Frank Lampard 's side and played less than half an hour of Premier League football before the pause for the World Cup. An England international as recently as November 2020, an Everton loan exit now looms.

A permanent transfer could be prohibitive due to the three-and-a-half years remaining on the player's contract combined with the at least £25 million fee paid to Burnley five years ago. The Reds have also been linked with re-signing Jamaal Lascelles from Newcastle United, but that move appears to be a non-starter, with the skipper talking up staying at St James' Park for the foreseeable future.

Agent comments spark red alert

Nottingham Forest transfer target Artem Dovbyk's agent Alexey Lundovsky has claimed that the centre-forward "would like to play in England" after confirming interest from the country in his client.

The Ukraine international has scored 16 goals in all competitions this season on the back of a summer of significant interest in the player. Dovbyk, 25, was linked with moves to the likes of Burnley and Brentford as well as the Reds, who Lundovsky claimed were to be in negotiations with Dnipro-1 over the player.

There was also apparently overseas interest in Italy from Bologna and Torino. Lundovsky has name-checked England and Italy as the two destinations of interest for Dovbyk.
