Nottingham Forest transfer twist as Manchester City wonderkid earns fresh interest

Nottingham Forest face competition from Southampton for transfer target Carlos Borges of Manchester City, it has been claimed.

Forest have been linked with a move for 19-year-old winger Borges, who is set to be valued at around £11million by City. Despite having little senior experience to his name, Borges has caught the eye with his stunning performances for the Citizens' under-21 side.

It has been reported that Borges is on a transfer shortlist at Forest for the current window, though talks have not taken place between the two clubs over a possible move. Their interest may now heat up, with the Daily Mail reporting that Southampton are 'keen on' a move for the youngster.

Cooper boasts Morgan Gibbs-White and Brennan Johnson in an exciting frontline at the City Ground, but another young, hungry talent like Borges would relish the chance to flourish in the Premier League.

Forest would face a tough transfer battle with Southampton for the Man City youngster, despite the two teams being in different divisions. Southampton's new transfer chief Jason Wilcox has just spent six years heading up the academy at the Etihad, so has good connections to the squad. The Saints are also close to signing City midfielder Shea Charles.

In the Premier League 2 last season, Borges scored 21 goals in 24 matches, and assisted another 10 in what was a fantastic season for the youngster. He also scoured four times in six UEFA Youth League games. The forward has excelled at City since joining them from Sporting in his native Portugal back in 2015.
