Nottingham Forest transfer stance on Brennan Johnson revealed amid 'insulting' claim

Nottingham Forest reportedly labelled a £30million bid from Brentford for Brennan Johnson "derisory and insulting".

The 22-year-old impressed in helping the Reds secure their top-flight status for another campaign. He scored eight Premier League goals in the season just finished.

His performances have caught the eye of a number of clubs and reports emerged recently that Brentford had submitted a £30m bid for the Reds star.

But it appears that the Bees will have to bid much higher if they are to stand a chance of securing Johnson's services. Sky Sports claim that Brentford are considering whether to 'improve their offer' and that Forest sources described the latest approach "derisory and insulting.”

It is also claimed that the Reds "have no intention" of selling the forward who signed a new four-year deal at the City Ground last summer. They also claim that they would only "contemplate talks" if a bid of "at least £50m" is made.

Johnson is clearly one of Forest's best players and being a Premier League club means that they can demand a premium for their most talented assets, particularly if they are tied to a lengthy contract.

The Reds have also shown their ambition in the transfer market since promotion, meaning they are not just satisfied with staying in the division. Owner Evangelos Marinakis will want the club to climb the table next season and Johnson will no doubt play an integral part in doing that, so it will take a hefty offer to tempt him into considering Johnson's sale.
