Nottingham Forest tipped to 'go from strength to strength' with Evangelos Marinakis backing

Midfielder Ryan Yates is confident Nottingham Forest can go “from strength to strength” after securing Premier League survival.

Having ended their 23-year top-flight exile last season, the Reds desperately wanted to avoid an immediate return to the Championship. And last Saturday’s victory over Arsenal at the City Ground guaranteed safety for Steve Cooper’s side with a game to spare.

Owner Evangelos Marinakis invested heavily in the squad 12 months ago in preparation for the step up, and he will provide a transfer kitty again as Forest look to push on. Incomings and outgoings are expected in a bid to help make the team more competitive next term.

For all the money spent, however, academy graduate Yates has been one of the players integral to both promotion and beating the drop. He is keen to keep progressing.

“We want to finish the season as strongly as possible. It’s going to be a fantastic atmosphere on Sunday (at Crystal Palace), so we’re looking forward to that,” he said on talkSPORT.

“With the backing the owner has shown the club and continues to show the club year on year, I think the club is only going to go from strength to strength. To be part of that journey is really exciting.

“With the owner’s backing and with Steve Cooper, there’s probably going to be a few ins and outs, and he’s going to try to find where he needs to strengthen. That takes time.

“To be honest, we’re not really thinking about next season too much. It’s been quite an emotionally draining season, especially the end, for us, so I think we need to reset and let the guys behind the scenes put the pieces together. Hopefully we can have a much better start to next season.

“We want to finish the season as strongly as possible. We’ve still got the chance to move up the table a little bit more, and that will be the aim when we’re back in training. We’ll let the rest take care of itself.”
