Nottingham Forest striker makes transfer admission with 'crazy' comment

On-loan Nottingham Forest attacker Nuno Da Costa has been speaking about his future as he looks ahead to the summer transfer window.

The striker is spending the season with French side Caen, and says they are eager to sign him at the end of the campaign but face some "difficulties".

Da Costa joined the Reds in January 2020 from Strasbourg but has made just 14 appearances in the Garibaldi, with his only goal for the club coming at the wrong end of the pitch.

Since he made the switch to Caen, Steve Cooper has replaced Chris Hughton in charge at the City Ground - and Da Costa has previously said the Welshman’s “philosophy” may better suit his own style.

But the 31-year-old, whose Forest contract is believed to run until 2023, admits he is unsure what will happen once his loan spell in France runs out.

“There are negotiations between me and the Caen club,” he told Malherbe in a translated interview.

“The problem is between the two clubs. Caen wants to keep me, but it's going to be difficult because I don't have too much information from Nottingham. I know they have changed coaches, it will depend on the preparation and what they want to do next year.

“Normandy is a region where I feel good. I told the president and the coach about it, we get on well. I know they are going to build a team to get something next year and in the years to come, it's an interesting project.

“With the money they put in to transfer me from Strasbourg, I don't think Nottingham can terminate my contract. Afterwards, you never know the English are sometimes a little crazy.”

Da Costa was on loan at Royal Excel Mouscron last season, with the Belgian outfit deciding not to take up the option of a permanent transfer.

He featured for the Reds in the Carabao Cup victory over Bradford City back in August, while Hughton was still at the helm, coming off the bench in the 2-1 win.
