Nottingham Forest sent Tom Lawrence transfer message as Lewis Grabban vs Lyle Taylor debate rages

Nottingham Forest fans have had their say on social media about the latest transfer and contract news swirling around the City Ground.

Striker Lewis Grabban is coming to the end of his contract with the club.

He is understood to be Forest's highest paid player, while teammate Lyle Taylor, whose contract runs out next summer, is also among the high earners in the squad.

This may become a problem for the Reds come next season should the pair remain at the club.

"You can't be a Championship club with the way finances are and have two players earning that amount of money and bring in someone else as well, unless it's a loan," said BT Sport commentator Darren Fletcher on Monday's Garibaldi Red Podcast.

"You are spending too much on players who might not be starting games. If you keep Grabban and Taylor on the wages they are on then they have to be starting, otherwise you are wasting cash."

Fletcher's discussion sparked debate on our Facebook page and this is what fans had to say on the matter...

Michael Ditchfield: "As old as Grabban is and as frustrating he can be if it’s out of these two to keep one it’s a no brainier. Sorry Lyle thanks for everything."

Richard Ottaway: "Easy solution is offload Taylor but it will involve subsidising any move and a successful negotiation of this so we pay the least possible."

Stelios Andreou: "Grabban should stay Taylor to go."

Gary P NFFC: "Keep the one that can stand up."

George Simpson: "That wouldn’t be a difficult decision to make would it?!"

Geoffrey Spall: "I sometimes ask, how many goals would expect a reasonable striker to score in a season? 10, 15, 20. How many has Taylor scored?"

Aaran Owen: "Surely this ain't even a question if it's one or the other!"

Joe Frost: "I’d keep Grabbs on a year’s contract on the same wages or less if we can reason he won’t be playing as much. I think offloading Taylor should be a priority."

Jan Francis: "A lot of players are different under Cooper, unfortunately Taylor is not one of them. His brace against Bristol City was another false dawn. He does a lot of work for the team but doesn't score. Grabban works for the team and scores. Taylor in my eyes has never got going at Forest and he has had chances. Grabban comes in for unfair stick, apart from last season he has weighed in with his share of goals. Grabban everyday of the week between those two regardless of his age."

Mark Gilliver: "Taylor is not good enough try to get rid and give grabs another year."

Paul Blake: "Lyle Taylor is the new Dexter Blackstock… rarely delivers and very frustrating."

Dean Spencer: "Is this even a question? Taylor has been pathetic."

In regard to January transfer window targets, Millwall winger Jed Wallace remains on the club's radar.

The Reds have so far seen their efforts to sign him rebuffed, and have reportedly since learnt that to prise him away from The Den, they would have to pay a price tag of £9million.

Despite the price tag, Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman, believes the 27-year-old would be a real coup.

"You’d have to say he’d be a good addition because he’s such a creative player," Goodman said.

"He delivers wicked set pieces and at 27 years old, he’s in the prime of his life, looks physically and mentally at the top of his game."

Wallace is in the final months of his contract and here's what the Forest faithful said on the matter...

Pal Isnes: "2 million is more than fair at this point."

Dan Shelton: "Decent player but worth nowhere near £9million."

Gary Cullis: "Lot of money for a Championship player."

Tom Barrett: "Not at £9m he won't be."

Chris Watson: "Deal won't happen now."

Patrick Smith: "Crazy money given how long's left on his contract."

Paul Allitt: "I have to agree if you pay the 9m you'd be mad."

Tony Lees: "Worth the money."

Tom Hulley: "Rather buy Tom Lawrence from the sheep for 5m."

Deano Reddog: "Hope thy get nowt for him now."
