Nottingham Forest sent Gustavo Scarpa warning ahead of January transfer window arrival

Nottingham Forest have been warned that Gustavo Scarpa "might need some time" to adapt to the physical rigours of English football.

Scarpa is set to arrive at the City Ground in January after he signed a pre-contract agreement to join the Reds from Brazilian club Palmeiras in the summer.

His presence in the East Midlands is eagerly awaited after he netted 13 goals and claimed 15 assists across all competitions, helping his side win the league title in his homeland.

Such form could inspire belief in Forest fans that the 28-year-old possesses the key to top-flight survival.

However, Palmeiras enthusiast Michael Barbosa told the Red Side of the Trent podcast that Scarpa may struggle to make an instant impact in the Premier League. “I have no doubt that he has the technical ability to be a success in England," he said.

“He’s a really amazing player but the physicality could be a problem. Scarpa isn’t the most physical player you will ever see and he might need some time to get used to that. I genuinely do think Forest are getting the very best version of Scarpa though.”

The one-time Brazil international is embracing his move to England, admitting that he has even identified locations to continue his hobby of skateboarding.

Speaking to Brazilian outlet Gazeta Scarpa explained: “An indoor park? I already found one in Nottingham. Now, outdoor park, on the street, it will be a little difficult because of the weather, it rains practically every day. But, we adapt, we dig.

“I’m a guy who looks too much for the things I like to do, that I want to do. But there’s still a Rubik’s cube, drums, a lot of things I can do to occupy myself there.”
