Nottingham Forest scouts sent on transfer mission to look at possible Djed Spence replacement

Nottingham Forest scouts have reportedly watched Forest Green Rovers full-back Kane Wilson for a "number of weeks" according to reports.

According to BristolLive, the Reds have been monitoring the right-back who has an excellent season at Rovers who have won promotion to League One. Wilson won recognition for his performances at the Football League awards having been named League Two player of the season and the defender is out of contract this summer.

Birmingham City have also been linked with a move for the 22-year-old who would not be a free agent given he is under the age of 24 and would require a compensation fee. Forest may need to look at signing a right-back in the summer given Djed Spence's Middlesbrough loan deal is due to finish at the end of the season.

Spence has had a terrific campaign but has been watched by a number of Premier League clubs with Tottenham and Arsenal strongly linked with a move for the exciting talent.

"BristolLive has learned that Nottingham Forest have watched Wilson a number of times in recent weeks, as he represents a like-for-like replacement for on-loan Djed Spence who appears bound for the Premier League (albeit with Steve Cooper's side very much in the automatic promotion mix), and they will not be alone among Championship clubs who have made multiple trips to New Lawn in 2021/22," they reported.

Speaking after collecting the League Two player of the season award, Wilson said: “I think if you told me this time last year that I’d be in this position then I would have laughed at you. No chance. I was just focused on getting into the Forest Green team at that point. To now be holding this award as the best player in League Two - it’s a feeling I can’t explain.”
