Forest confirm retained list
Nottingham Forest have announced their retained list following the end of the 2022/23 season.
Six players leave the Reds at the end of their contracts. Lyle Taylor, Cafu, Jesse Lingard and Andre Ayew all depart as free agents, with the exits of midfielder Jack Colback and goalkeeper Jordan Smith having already been announced.
Meanwhile, loanees Dean Henderson, Keylor Navas and Renan Lodi return to their parent clubs. Whether it is a final farewell for all of them remains to be seen, however.
Aurier contract clause triggered
Nottingham Forest have confirmed defender Serge Aurier has triggered an automatic one-year extension to his contract.
The defender revealed earlier this year an extra 12 months on his deal would come into effect in the event of survival being secured. The Reds achieved safety with a game to spare, and now the club have announced Aurier’s services have been secured for another season ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
Aurier made the switch to the City Ground last September as a free agent. His contract will now run until summer 2024.
Gibbs-White announcement
Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White and his partner Britney De Villiers have announced they are expecting their first child together.
The Reds midfielder arrived at the City Ground last summer from Wolves and shone during his debut campaign at Forest.
Gibbs-White played a key role in their successful Premier League survival bid, scoring five goals alongside eight assists in 37 league appearances.
Club stalwart to leave
Head coach Steve Cooper has praised “incredible servant” Jordan Smith as the goalkeeper’s Nottingham Forest departure is announced.
The Nigel Doughty Academy graduate leaves as a free agent this summer at the end of his contract. It brings an end to a stint of more than two decades Trentside for the 28-year-old.
Smith joined the club at the age of seven and made his first-team debut against Norwich City in February 2017. His last appearance for the Reds was also against the Canaries, in March 2021.
