Nottingham Forest receive 'incredible' message as transfer plan mapped out

Good morning Reds fans, here are your latest headlines from the City Ground on Sunday, May 28.

Horvath opens up on worrying Wembley moment

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Ethan Horvath said Tom Lockyer's collapse at Wembley was "heartbreaking" as he dedicated Luton Town's playoff final win to the Hatters captain.

Horvath is on a season-long loan at Kenilworth Road from the Reds and started the Championship showdown against Coventry which Rob Edwards' side won 6-5 in a shootout.

But there were scary scenes early on when Lockyer collapsed after eight minutes under no challenge prompting medics from both clubs to rush to his aid.

The game was delayed for five minutes while Lockyer was given oxygen before being carried off on a stretcher to the medical room at Wembley.

"To be honest, I didn't know if he had tripped," he said.

"After I went in, the first thing I asked was Tom okay. We rallied. This is for Tom. You never want to see anything like that happen."

Hodgson's classy message

Roy Hodgson has heaped praise on Nottingham Forest and boss Steve Cooper for avoiding relegation from the Premier League and says the scenes after their win over Arsenal were "touching".

The Reds confirmed their top-flight status with victory over the Gunners last week amid a fine run that saw them take 10 points from their last five games.

Cooper's side now go into the final day of the season free of any anxiety and will look to sign off the campaign with an away win as they plot for a stress-free campaign next term.

Hodgson paid his respect to the Reds for the way they have defied some of the pundits and says Forest will be a tough examination.

“[Cooper] has done a very good job – in particular I think the last five games they have had an incredible upsurge in form,” he said.

Forest face major Giovani competition

Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for Brazilian forward Giovani but face competition from Barcelona, it is claimed.

The highly rated 19-year-old has scored two goals alongside four assists during the early days of his career as a professional player. He made his first senior appearance for Palmeiras at the beginning of the year.

Giovani's potential arrival at the City Ground would see him join three other Brazilians in Steve Cooper's squad. The Reds also have Felipe, Danilo and Gustavo Scarpa as part of their team, while Renan Lodi is about to see his loan spell come to an end.

And now Nosso Palmeiras claim that the Reds will 'open their wallets' to try and sign him. They also claim that he has been a target for Barcelona and Ajax.

The report describes him as 'strong, fast, skilful and a good finisher,' with the teenager valued at around £50 million. They also claim that Barca 'have not yet submitted a proposal' which would be similar to Forest's but that is 'likely to happen in the coming days.'

Transfer plan mapped out

Head coach Steve Cooper anticipates a “more normal” transfer window for Nottingham Forest this year.

Twelve months ago, a record-breaking summer saw the Reds make 22 signings in preparation for the step up to the Premier League. A further seven came through the doors in January.

Such an overhaul came with its own challenges as it took time for the squad to gel and for Cooper to find his best team. But the sense of unity which developed was a key factor in Forest avoiding the drop.

Incomings and outgoings are expected again this time around, albeit not on the same scale. And as the Reds aim to keep improving, one of the lessons from this term is on finding the right blend of youth and experience in the changing room.

"I think there will be more normal numbers,” Cooper said of the transfer window. “There will be a natural process of assessment at the end of the season of where you think you're at and how you improve."
